To help everyone better understand and effectively apply this code, our official WeChat account will regularly share explanations of its provisions every Friday—covering topics such as background information, usage guidelines, and key considerations. We encourage you to stay tuned, share your valuable insights, and collectively contribute to the growth and development of the industry.
On March 15, 2024, the China Engineering Construction Standardization Association released an approval announcement for the "Technical Code for Two-Component Road Traffic Markings" (hereinafter referred to as the "Code"), compiled by Shanxi Changda Traffic Facilities Co., Ltd. and other organizations. The Code was officially approved after undergoing a rigorous process that began on June 12, 2019, when it was first proposed by the China Construction Standardization Association. Over the past five years, the project went through stages including preliminary research, outline review, draft for comments, submission draft, clause review, and finally, the approval phase—culminating in today's release of the final document.
The release of the "Regulations" further enhances the standardization system for the traffic marking industry, providing unified and clear technical guidelines covering material requirements, engineering design, construction, and acceptance procedures. This will help regulate market competition, guide technological advancements, foster innovation and product upgrades, and ultimately drive technological progress across the entire industry chain.
This Regulation is divided into seven chapters, covering General Provisions, Terms and Definitions, Basic Requirements, Material Specifications, Design, Construction, and Quality Inspection of Engineering Projects, among others.
The main contents of each chapter are as follows:
General Provisions: Explain the scope and applicability of this procedure;
Terms: Explanation of the terms used in this procedure;
Basic regulations: Includes general provisions, MMA two-component marking classification, and corresponding application processes;
Material requirements: Includes classification and specifications for two-component marking paints, as well as classification and specifications for primer coatings;
Design: Including design service life, application selection, performance metrics, and more;
Construction: Common construction process precautions;
Construction Project Quality Inspection: Includes the division of inspection units for different types of roads, as well as the criteria for project acceptance.
The purpose of traffic markings is to convey information such as road traffic rules, warnings, and directions, thereby guiding, regulating, and alerting road users, and ensuring both safety and smooth flow on the roads.
As a standard specification applicable to both the highway industry and the urban road sector, this procedure focuses on defining two-component road traffic markings, covering aspects such as marking classification, material performance, and technical indicators for the markings.
This compilation of article explanations will provide detailed interpretations of the provisions in each chapter. Among them, the sections covering basic regulations, material requirements, and design—most of which are closely tied to actual road marking design work—will be highlighted as key content for presentation.
